What is PIP?
Personal Independence Payment (PIP) is a non-means-tested benefit that helps with the extra costs of living with a long-term physical or mental health condition or disability. It’s not based on your income or savings, and you can receive it whether you’re working or not.
Eligibility for PIP
To be eligible for PIP, you generally need to meet the following criteria:
- Age: You must be aged 16 or over and usually have not reached State Pension age.
- Long-term health condition or disability: Your physical or mental health condition or disability must have lasted for at least 3 months and is expected to last for at least another 9 months.
- Impact on daily life: Your condition must affect your ability to carry out daily living and/or mobility activities.
- Residency: You must have been present in Great Britain for at least 2 of the last 3 years and be habitually resident in the UK, Ireland, Isle of Man, or Channel Islands.
