Attendance Allowance Increases This April Maximising Your Independence:

For many people maintaining independence at home as we age is a top priority. However, the extra costs associated with a long-term illness or disability can quickly add up.

Attendance Allowance is a non-means tested benefit which can help offset some of those costs.

Attendance Allowance

The good news is that from April 2026, Attendance Allowance rates are set to increase by 3.8%, providing vital extra support for local seniors.

The new weekly rates will be:

Lower Rate: £76.70 (for help during the day or night).

Higher Rate: £114.60 (for help during both day and night).

Eligibility

A common misconception is that you won’t qualify if you have savings. It is vital to remember that Attendance Allowance is not means-tested. Your income and assets do not matter; eligibility is based purely on your physical or mental health needs.

You simply need to be State Pension age or older, find tasks like climbing the stairs or showering more difficult and require support, help or supervision for at least six months.

Don’t Face the Forms Alone

The application form is notoriously complex, often over 30 pages long. The questions can be confusing and  because of this, many people find the process overwhelming and give up or have their claims rejected.

Support

If you need support to apply, local charities like Citizens Advice offer guidance.

For those who want confidential, one-to-one expertise, Family Care Advice is here to help. We offer a 30-minute free introductory call to assess your situation.

This can be followed by a home visit or video call to complete the entire form with you. Our expertise ensures your needs are accurately reflected, giving you the best possible chance of securing the funding you deserve.
