Are you missing out on £4800 per year? You won’t be alone, according to the charity Turn2Us, 3.4 million pensioners are not claiming the Attendance Allowance they are entitled to! It could be worth checking if you are missing out.

What is Attendance Allowance?

Attendance Allowance is a non means tested benefit for people over state pension age who are finding daily living more difficult than it used to be. For example, you may need help from others, use a walking stick or take much longer getting dressed in the morning.

Your finances won’t be taken into account so you can claim even if you are a multi-millionaire!

Am I Eligible?

If you are over state pension age and are finding life more difficult because of a physical or mental disability you may be eligible to claim.

Secondly, you need to be in Great Britain when you claim and have lived in Britain for the last 2 out of 3 years and be habitually resident.

Additionally, if you are receiving PIP or DLA you will not be eligible to claim for Attendance Allowance.

How much is paid?

There are two rates of Attendance Allowance.

Low Level is currently £61.85 per week rising to £68.10 in April

High Level is currently £92.40 per week rising to £101.75 in April.

Is it a complicated claim form?

It is 30 pages long and can take a considerable length of time to complete.

People often feel daunted or confused by some of the questions.

How do I claim?

Family Care Advice can support you to claim.

We charge a fee however Attendance Allowance backdates to the date the claim request was made   This means you will recive a backdated payment from the DWP.

Furthermore you can download the form from the DWP website although it will only be backdated to when the DWP receives the completed claim.
